Music for cooking: An old school Italian playlist

There’s nothing better to get you in the mood for cooking than some of the Italian classics.

Most of these songs have been covered by contemporary artists, such as the very talented handsome young men of Il Volo (whose versions I also adore). But for this playlist we’re going back in time to pay homage to the original artists.

This is the kind of romantic music that makes you grab your lover and dance, wine in hand, in the kitchen while there’s a hot pot of ragù bubbling on the stove.

Enrico Caruso: ‘O Sole Mio

(In Neapolitan dialect)

Volare (Nel Blu Dipinto di Blu) – Domenico Modugno

I think if you’ve ever learned Italian, it’s impossible not to know this song! My cousin learned this song in her high school Italian class and then sang it at the top of her lungs on the train to Rome. It’s guaranteed to put you in a good mood!

Jimmy Fontana – Il Mondo

Perhaps my favorite!

Claudio Villa – Mamma

A classic!

Rossini – Figaro

Aaaaaand the grand finale! If you’ve ever seen Mrs. Doubtfire, I’m sure you’ll recognize this song!

Which classic Italian songs would you add to this list? Let us know in the comments!
